We started Inside Out because we were not satisfied with the way career choices are made today. Having a network of professionals around you is the only way to get a clear picture of the reality behind the job of your interest. It is also the only way to properly assess whether a given job is likely to fulfill your needs and expectations.
The reason behind is simple: professionals are the most knowledgeable and best positioned people to share the truth you need to hear before making critical career choices. They can help you read between the lines of job ads, share the unwritten rules in their profession and most importantly, tell real insights about the opportunities and challenges related to the job you target and that no one else told you about.
Unfortunately, it is currently extremely difficult to find committed professionals, ready to help if you don’t already have a wide personal network. This means that underprivileged people are bound to make career choices based on the role models around them and to inevitably reproduce the same social patterns. Even those who may have a solid network may struggle to explore careers beyond the prevailing ones in their traditional circles.
This led us to create Inside out and gather a network of professionals across 17 industries, all ready to help and broaden the perspective of students and career changers. We carefully select each professional showcased during our livestream events. They are all top professionals, with inspiring stories and excited to open people’s eyes on the reality behind their jobs. They share the same belief that we can empower people to think big, make bold and informed career choices.
It is critical to us to organize online events to allow anyone, irrespective of where they live or come from to join. These events are meant to be as interactive as possible and each participant should feel free to ask candid questions to our experienced professionals. The whole point of those events is to go beyond overly optimistic or simplistic interviews and to address sensitIve but important questions from the participants.
Beyond our livestream events, we know that it is also fundamental to get a practical sense of what a given job entails by visiting a working environment, observing the tools used and shadowing a professional. Our “career discovery days” aim to help participants get a better feeling of their dream career before taking the leap. These “eye opening moments” should help participants validate whether their initial career choice fully aligns with their expectations.
Finally, we believe that it can be easy to get lost in the mass of information available on each job. That’s why we ask each of our professionals to create a list of books, blogs or websites to take a deep dive into your new industry as well as some training materials recommended to stand out in front of recruiters.
